Poppy Cottage Garden

Poppy Cottage GardenSituated on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, Poppy Cottage Garden at Ruan High Lanes near the hamlet of Ruan Lanihorne is an enchanting one acre cottage garden which is a gardener's paradise.

The garden has has been transformed from an uncared for plot into a spectacular and colourful display. The owners, Tina and David Primmer, both professional gardeners, started developing the one-acre garden when they moved to Poppy Cottage 15 years ago. They began clearing the site and designing a garden to give as much colour and interest all the year round.

Poppy Cottage Garden has now been shortlisted among the county's most famous estates for the Garden of the Year award, run by Cornwall Today magazine, in partnership with the Cornwall Garden Society.

Poppy Cottage GardenThe garden is divided into intimate garden rooms, each colour themed and intensely planted to give all year interest. The lawns are surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs which provide structure, under planted with unusual bulbs and herbaceous ground cover. Seating has been carefully placed in the gardens so visitors can stroll through at their own pace.

The 'cool' and 'hot' herbaceous beds are ablaze with colour from Spring to late Autumn with clever combinations giving a 'wow' factor round every corner.

There is also a small orchard with unusual ducks and chickens and a small nursery area which offers a wide range of herbaceous plants for sale.

Delicious homemade cakes and teas are available.
